On The Road Day one

I attended another great professional development this week.  I applied and was selected to attend Ag in the Classroom's On the Road trip.  So I packed my bags once again, drove to Shawnee Oklahoma to board the bus.  I traveled with 60 people.  The first day was packed full of stops and activities for us.  I really have a new appreciation for what the Ag does for us the consumers.  Each stop we got out and meet great people who were very passionate about what they do.  First stop was a cattle ranch.  He runs this ranch by himself with his wife and girls in Checotah, Oklahoma.

Our next few stops were in Gore Oklahoma.  We visited a Christmas Tree farm, an Alpaca Farm, and had lunch at a really unique place on Ten Killer Lake called Soda Steve's.  Each of these places talked about what they do and how the weather has affected them.  (Oklahoma has had 30 plus inches of rain in some places in May and then June.)  At the alpaca place, we meet a 92 (I think) year old woman who still works with the pelts and weaves with the fur of the animals there.

The brown tree is a product of all the rain we have had.  This will hurt their crop when it is time.

Then our next stops were in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma.  We got to see sweet corn and wheat.  Sloan Farms lost a lot of their wheat cob as well as some of their corn.  We then got to visit the place where the wheat is taken to be shipped on barrages.  Then last stop in Webbers Falls was a crop duster.

Our first day ended with dinner, the bus breaking down, then finally making it to our last stop to pick our own blueberries.  Which I loved doing.
